Gymnasium Floor Refinishing:
The West Branch Area School District is accepting sealed bids for the refinishing of the high school gymnasium. This includes sanding down of the 10,900 sf floor and replacement of existing lines as well as graphics in kind. option of painting, staining, and tinting should be included. It will be a water based finish system. The time frame for the gymnasium project must be between December 13th 2019 and completely operational for use on January 6th 2020. Interested bidders must submit their bid to Kasi Woodring, Board Secretary. Opening of bids will take place on Friday, October 25th, 2019 at noon. Bids will be awarded during the Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting on Monday, October 28th, 2019.
Gymnasium Floor Refinishing Specifications:
The following are minimal guidelines. Any and all product guidelines or procedures required above and beyond the following must be adhered to. Products must be approved by the school district prior to the start of the project.
The gymnasium floor should be sanded with a minimum of three cuts using coarse, medium and fine sandpapers. Screen and disc sanding will be performed if necessary. The final sanding should provide a smooth and even surface, free from scratches, drum stop marks or gouges. After sanding the contractor should thoroughly vacuum the surface with a heavy-duty commercial type vacuum to remove sanding dust and grit prior to sealing and finishing.
After sanding, the floor shall be thoroughly swept and vacuumed. Tack rag floor with a Turkish towel dampened with solvent until no traces of sand dust remain on the floor. Final dust removal will be with a dust cloth. Apply the first coat and allow it to dry the appropriate period per the manufacturer guidelines. Abrasion if necessary per guidelines. Apply second coat and after proper drying period abrade with floor machine and tacked with solution in preparation for court layout and painting/ staining and or tinting.
Mark game lines with proper colors. The use of a precision taping machine should be used. Dependent on what type of marking are used follow guidelines for drying, removal of tape and applications.
After markings are dry, abrade entire floor and use tack rag. Floor will be abraded with 3M SPP if required. Apply first coat of finish, (TBD). Apply second of finish. Per manufacturers requirements abrade if necessary.
Price for paint, stain, and tint should be provided. All work must meet industry standards. Final design and district logos will be provided to the winning bidder.
