Vavreck Scholarship:
This scholarship was established in 2017 as the result of a bequest from the estate of Josephine Vavreck and is being administered by the West Branch Community Education Foundation. Mrs. Vavreck and her husband were graduates of the West Branch Area School District and desired to give back to their alma mater through an endowed scholarship.
The criteria for the Vavreck award is: academic merit deserving of recognition and acceptance into a two or four-year program of study at one of four family chosen post-secondary institutions: Saint Francis University, Saint Vincent College, Gannon University or Duquesne University.
This scholarship is valued at $4,000 for academic studies. The recipient will receive $1,000 each year for the duration of his/her program based on continued satisfactory academic performance.
Harold Donald Whipple Memorial Scholarship:
Donald was a 2001 graduate of West Branch who was killed unexpectedly in a work-related accident.
This scholarship was developed to help Don’s memory live on by honoring and recognizing a student each year who demonstrates some of those traits displayed by Don; qualities that each of us should strive to achieve. This scholarship is being administered by the West Branch Community Education Foundation.
This award is given in his memory by a group of friends (The LOONS).
The scholarship value is determined on an annual basis.
Sue Betts and Family Scholarship:
This scholarship is given to female students who have had adversity in their lives and have continued to strive to overcome and to be active in school activities.
The number of scholarships awarded and the awarded amount is determined on an annual basis.
This scholarship is being administered by the West Branch Community Education Foundation.
