National Walkout Event
Good Evening:
The West Branch High School will be participating in this event tomorrow around
the topic of School Violence. Our in-house event has been designed as an
opportunity for administration and faculty to receive feedback and suggestions
about this topic from our students in Grades 7-12 focusing the conversation on
what we do well here at West Branch as it relates to safety and security, but
perhaps more importantly, what we can do better in the future.
Students will be engaged in conversations with their teachers during the 17
minute period set aside for this event with additional time provided as needed.
Students wishing to participate by walking out for the 17 minutes may do so in
accordance with the guidelines we have set up for them to ensure they are
monitored and safe while outside.
We believe the perspective of our students is vitally important to our overall
mission to provide a safe and secure educational environment and hope that
most students will choose to remain in their classrooms for the group
conversation. This is a terrific opportunity for our students to exercise their
“voice” and set a positive example of how the youth in our country may engage in
activism for the betterment of all schools.
