Green House Project

The Greenhouse project is an effort of several teachers at the West Branch High School. Mr. Dan Socash is a Jr. High  teacher who  teaches the Science and Technology class. Mr. Andy Brickley is the Drafting teacher at the school. Mrs. Zimmerman is the Secondary Life Skills Support teacher.

In the fall of 2004, Mr. Socash and Mr. Brickley approached Mrs. Zimmerman and asked if working in a greenhouse would be something that  her students would like to do. The Life Skills Support program focuses much of its instruction on vocational skills, and a greenhouse would fit right in with that instruction. Mr. Socash and Mr. Brickley agreed to research and find the greenhouse that would be placed on school property. Mrs. Zimmerman agreed to do the fundraising. Several organizations were contacted and others heard about the project through word-of–mouth. Finally in the fall of 2005, approximately $3000 was raised and the greenhouse was ordered. On a Sunday in November, a work party was held. The ground had been marked out by the Drafting class. The greenhouse was erected in the courtyard of the library. Presently the greenhouse is completed.
