Grading Policy

         1.       Weighted Grades

Grades are weighted, which means that each assignment (based on its category) is worth a different percentage of the overall grade.  The weights are as follows:

·        In-class & Homework:  30%

·       Quizzes & Tests:   30%

·        Projects:   20%

·        Participation:   10%

·        Notebook:   10%

         2.   Late Work

Late work will be accepted after the due date for a limited time, with penalties.  Assignments turned in on time will receive the grade that is earned.  Assignments received after work is collected, even if it is turned in that same period, until the end of the day that it is due will receive 50% of the earned grade.  Assignments not turned in before 2:30 or not received at all will receive a 0%.  If you have an excused absence, you will have until the beginning of the next scheduled class day to complete the assignment.  Prolonged excused absences will receive comparable time to make up the missed assignments.

          3.       Participation

Active participation (including following general classroom rules) such as answering questions, helping other students, and doing assigned work are a large part of this category.  Participation points can be deducted for the following reasons:

·        Unprepared for class (no pencil/pen, textbook, notebook, etc.)

·        Not working on assignment in class (sleeping, working on other work, etc.)

·        Talking out of turn/during individual work

·        Tardy for class

·        Late/no homework

** Earn extra participation points:  Fill out the daily log located at the side of the room.  Your class has its own color.  Be sure to sign your name legibly at the end of the class.  You may do this only one time per week.  For every three times you complete this task, you will receive one participation point added on to your nine week grade.

         4.   Notebooks

It is your responsibility to keep discussion notes throughout the year.  At random dates, notebooks will be checked by the teacher in order to assess the ability to keep neat, accurate, and detailed notes from which to study.  A scoring rubric will be provided for you to review at the beginning of class in order for you to know what exactly will be scored, and how.  PHOTOCOPIES of another student's notebook or teacher's overheads will NOT be accepted for a notebook check.
