Personal Interests

My personal interests cover many areas.  So that you know a little bit about me on a personal level, I’ve included some of those interests here with some links.  Enjoy!

            Music

I am an avid music fan within and outside of school.  I think that music is a fundamental element of our lives and I’d love to see a day where children are mandated to learn a musical instrument in school.  Hey, it would be a lot better than mandated testing that we have now!

My personal preference in music leans toward hard-edged music and heavy metal.  I often write lyrics for a friend’s band in Germany and I attend concerts all over the country whenever possible.  My music collection consists of many cds and concert shirts, autographs, music collectables, and rare, one of a kind items.

            Sports

Soccer

Having played soccer for 13 years, it's truly one of my favorite sports!  Did you catch any of the 2006 World Cup?  Magnificent.  When a little country like Ghana does so well, the players become national heroes and legends.  There is no other sport like that in the entire world.  Some of my favorite national teams are Germany, Denmark, Holland, Norway, and Japan.  Before you dismiss soccer as "boring", watch a match and remember that these teams are playing for the pride of a NATION and not just a city like most U.S. sports!  It really is breathtaking to see a good soccer match!  http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/

Also, like most other red-blooded U.S. males, I am a fan of American football too.  Up until Dan Marino retired, I was a fan of the Miami Dolphins.  Now, it seems that I have resorted to the hometown favorites, Pittsburgh Steelers for my football.  You probably already know the link for this!

And finally, I have to mention a couple of my other favorite sports: Racquetball and Badminton.  Yes, Badminton, the game with the “birdie”.  Admittedly, I am not a fan of the backyard cookout badminton.  I am more of a fan of proper sporting badminton if you’ve ever seen that.  If you haven’t, check out some of the video on this page:

More importantly, I have a love for the true “sport of kings” and that is racquetball.  What?  You’ve never played?  Well, my suggestion is to read a little about the sport, go to Wal-Mart and buy a $10 racket and then go to PSU’s Rec Hall and play.  It’s free (if you can find free parking.  Otherwise, it’ll be about $1 to park) and so long as there is no class using the courts, you can play until you drop over.  You’ve never played anything like it, I promise!
