QUALIFICATIONS: |
| This position requires a person with valid certification as a secondary teacher. The Dean of Secondary Students must have successful experience as a secondary teacher. The Dean of Secondary Students also must demonstrate the ability to work with "at risk" students both in individual and group settings. The Dean of Students is responsible for assisting the High School Principal with the attendance and discipline functions of the High School. |

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
| 1. Collaborates with the Administration and Faculty to develop a behavior management system, to effect positive student behavior in the school. |
| 2. Assists the faculty in developing, implementing and monitoring prescribed interventions for individual students. |
| 3. Develops and implements student group sessions for students at risk as per the training provided through Student Assistance Group Facilitator Training. |

4. Research matters of discipline and welfare by conferring with students, parents, teachers, counselors and support service personnel. The High School Principal will be responsible for the final decisions on these matters. |
| 5. Coordinates the resolution of all student discipline problems in a fair and just manner and maintains records of any action taken. The High School Principal will be responsible for the final decision on all discipline matters. |
| 6. Provides documentation and recommendations to the High School Principal regarding the suspension and expulsion of all students. The High School Principal, after conferring with the Dean of Students, is responsible for the final decision regarding the suspension and/or expulsion of any student. |
| 7. Coordinates the student attendance function and makes recommendations to the High School Principal for resolution of chronic attendance problems. |

8. Serves as Core Team member of the consultation/screening process team. As a core team member, the Dean of Students will assist in the review of an individual student's program adaptations and review the need for evaluation/testing. |
| 9. Serves as a member of the student assistance team and assists the principal with the completion of the Department of Education required reports. |
| 10. Works with community and governmental agencies on problems relating to drug abuse, discipline problems and truancy from school. |
| 11. Assists in the dissemination of information regarding school and district programs, policies and procedures to parents, staff and community. |

12. Coordinates the development, maintenance and distribution of student-parent handbooks and similar literature. |
| 13. Participates in the coordination, implementation and supervision of the extracurricular program of the school and responds to student initiated requests for specific new extra-curricular clubs, activities and programs. |
| 14. Assists with the supervisory responsibility for student activities, programs of student orientation and similar activities; any schedule changes that affect teachers will be made by the High School Principal. |
| 15. Completes other tasks within the Incumbent's area(s) of certification as assigned by the High School Principal and/or Superintendent within certification guidelines. |
